LEED for Wake Forest Town Hall
GreenTech Consulting, Inc. is working with Heaton Construction Company, Inc. from Roanoke Rapids, NC on US Green Building Council's LEED documentation for the new Wake Forest Town Hall. The 44,000 square foot project broke ground on May 2008 and is expected to be completed in October 2009.
Paul Heaton, Jr., President and CEO of Heaton Construction states "The project started out with the goal of LEED Silver, but now, with the joint cooperation of Owner, Designers, and Contractor, the project aspires to Platinum level certification." GreenTech is carefully tracking submittals and budget information to help the project team achieve their goals.
The building is centrally located at the intersection of Brooks and Owen Street in downtown Wake Forest, North Carolina and serves as a prominent building for much of the downtown area.
The project was designed by Little Diversified Architectural Consulting, and incorporates thoughtful, sustainable and modern features into the design while maintaining a traditional feel.
The Town prioritized LEED features which were indicative of Wake Forest's historic roots through locating the site on a brownfield and sourcing a large percentage of materials from the region, boosting the local economy and reducing its greenhouse gas impact. The interior features wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council and materials with a high percentage of recycled content. Further, a majority of the construction and demolition waste which is produced is being reused on site, donated or recycled.
